So, I had my second visit with the dr. today. It went really well! He used the little doppler thing so that I could hear the heartbeat, which was really neat. The more I talk about it and the further along I am, the more excited I get. It's just so cool. The office I go to rotates you around with all 4 of the doctors, so that you're familiar with all of them since you don't know who will be on call when you're in labor. I think it's pretty cool that they do that. So far, I've seen only one doctor and he's great. I'm looking forward to my next visit in 4 weeks to see how the next doctor is.
On another note, I know it's still far away, but I keep thinking about the whole natural birth thing. To be honest, I am more terrified of having an epidural than the actual act of childbirth. I mean, would I really want a big needle stuck directly into my spine? The more I think about it and the more I read about the pros and cons, I am coming to the conclusion of "thanks, but no thanks!". Seriously, they could stick the needle in too far, you're all groggy afterwards so you can't enjoy the fact that you just gave birth, and in some cases, the medicine doesn't even work! Why go through the anxiety of having a needle in your spine if it isn't even going to do anything?! The way I figure, is that the pain is definitely going to end, so just deal with it. I'm not downplaying it and saying it isn't going to hurt. I'm sure it'll hurt like hell, but I would much rather go through it and feel great afterwards, then deal with a needle and grogginess. I mean, some people got sick from the anesthetic. No thanks!
So, I'm going to be looking into natural childbirth classes. Finding out different strategies to deal with the pain. I think I might consider finding a doula as well. I think it would help to have someone there relaxing me and reminding me to calm down. Mind over matter, right?

Wow, good luck with the natural birth. That was also my original intent but Milo didn't want to get into position to come out. I ended up getting the epidural after maybe 30 hours of labor and then the c-section a few hours afterwards. The epidural needle felt nice going into my spine, which was very surprising. I was dissapointed with the entire experience, try not to build it up in your mind too much.
